Throughout my career in public relations and digital marketing, the most important tool in my media toolbox has undoubtedly been the press release. A well-crafted press release has the potential to catch the attention of media organizations, leading to mentions and articles about your release’s topic. Achieving such recognition is referred to as “earned media.” It is called “earned” because you didn’t have to pay for space in the media publication; you earned it by demonstrating to journalists that your activity is newsworthy.

And here’s the secret: Almost everything has a newsworthy element. The key is to identify it, focus on it, and create a concise, engaging press release about it.

Occasionally, I am invited to teach a university course on writing for communication careers. In these courses, I emphasize the importance of the press release. Furthermore, I share my template, which, in my opinion, is the best press release template available. My experience has shown that a Google search for “press release templates” often yields disappointing results that miss the mark.

Therefore, for those of you in search of the best free press release template, consider this my gift to you! I have used this simple and straightforward template for years with tremendous success.
